History

History of the Arıburnu Lighter

Also referred to as "Mule Barges," these lighter vessels were used to transport materials and livestock between the shore and larger ships. Measuring 11.50 x 3.5 meters, they were designed with a ramp door at the bow to facilitate easy access to the shore. During their evacuation from Arıburnu in December 1915, the Allies either destroyed or scuttled any equipment, ammunition, and provisions that they could not carry away with them. It is believed that the lighter located at Arıburnu was scuttled during this evacuation.

Dive Equipment Information
