History of the Lundy

Built in 1908 in Beverley, England, the Lundy was a fishing trawler belonging to the Hull Steam Fishing & Ice company prior to the war. Equipped with a Smith brand engine, the vessel measures 33.6 x 6.5 meters. Although used for civilian purposes before the Gallipoli Campaign, it was requisitioned upon the outbreak of the war and assigned to minesweeping duties in the Dardanelles. On August 16, 1915, while loading ammunition, it was struck by a vessel named "Kalyan," which was attempting to escape Turkish artillery fire, and subsequently sank. Lying at a depth of 27 meters, the ship remains largely intact, with the exception of the damage to its stern that caused its sinking.

Dive Equipment Information

The equipment used for diving includes basic scuba gear. A 3-5mm wet neoprene wetsuit can be worn from April to October, while a 7mm wet neoprene, semi-dry, or drysuit is suitable from November to March.
