History

History:

Mania Nets were produced at the Golden Horn Shipyard to prevent submarines from passing through the straits.

Designed in 4 × 4 sections, each segment of the net is square in shape. With a length of 60 meters and a depth of 30 meters, the Mania Nets were deployed between Akbaş Bay and Nara Point, and between Bigalı Fortress and Nara Point.

A total of 25 nets were installed between 26 June and 27 July, covering an area of approximately 1,500 meters in length between the buoys. One of the 60-meter-long nets identified in Akbaş Bay remains as an example of the Mania Nets and, even after 106 years, still awaits exploration by divers.
