History

Mesudiye Battleship

The Mesudiye (meaning "Happiness"), the largest of the Ottoman ironclads, was originally constructed in the 1870s. Following a major modernization in Italy between 1899 and 1904, where its weaponry and propulsion systems were fully upgraded, the vessel reached a total length of approximately 101 meters.

On December 13, 1914, while anchored in shallow water at Nara Point (Nara Burnu) to defend the entrance of the Dardanelles, the Mesudiye was sunk by a torpedo from the submarine HMS B11. The wreck is located very close to the shore in shallow waters, making it highly suitable for wreck diving. The depth is estimated to be within the 9–12 meter range.

Diving Equipment Information

The equipment used for diving includes standard scuba gear. A 3–5 mm wetsuit is suitable between April and October, while a 7 mm neoprene wetsuit, a semi-dry suit, or a dry suit is worn between November and March.
